what's really different?
To be completely honest, it comes down to nothing more than a price thing.
If you've followed how Apple prices products that have been on the shelves too long, then you'll notice that if you're patient enough you can get what you want for a cheaper price. And the price/new shelf life seems to be the only real difference here. source
But for the sake of being fair, we'll do a comparison of the few new features that the Beats Solo 3offer vs. the Beats Solo 2
Beats Solo 3 Improved Features
There have been some improvements made to these headphones that might warrant taking a second look. However, we still stand by our statement that the basics of these two headphones remained mostly the same.
There were frequent complaints of the difficulty that came with pairing and unpairing the Beats Solo 2 to an iphone or other device after it had been synced with something else, like Beats Studios.
The Beats Solo 3 cleared up this problem with the W1 chip. This chip made switching from your iphone to your computer a breeze! If that's worth the extra $100, that's up to you, friend.
This feature received a drastic touch up! They took the version 2's 12 hour battery life, doubled it, and then added a few more hours. Which might make it worth the money in connivance of not having to charge them as often.
Fast Fuel Cell Charging
Ok this is another really cool feature that was added, the fast fuel charging. I mean putting your headphones on the charger for 5 minutes, and getting 3 HOURS of playback time is a really big improvement! source
Our hat comes off to the folks at Beats for this change.
On-Ear Remote Talk Controls
To be honest, this wasn't a huge step forward or backward in our opinion. They moved the call controls from the usual on cable buttons, to the headset itself so that they're truly wireless.
Oooooo ahhhhhh...not really though...
Not worth the extra cash.
The decision is yours now
There are some different features with the Beats Solo 2 vs. the Solo 3, but on the whole they do the same thing with the same sound quality. If the extra features are worth the money, or if you just want the latest and greatest then feel free to jump on the Beats Solo 3. If you want to get a new set of headphones, but don't want to spend an extra $100, then check out the Beats solo 2.
